About the Field Archery Facility

Friday, 13 March 2009 13:40
Here at CVA we offer an N.F.A.A. Five-Star certified roving field range. It is comprised of 28 targets. The distance of each target varies from 20 feet to 80 yards. These targets are strategically placed on level ground as well as uphill and downhill terrain. This makes the course extremely challenging. It takes 2 to 21/2 hours to complete our roving course, so you might want to do some warm up exercises before venturing out. Average groups of 3-5 people circulate the range similar to foursomes on a golf course. Each shooter fires off four arrows per target. There is a maximum of twenty points for each target and a possible total of 560 points for the entire round of 28 targets.

$$$ Shoot Arrows - Win Dollars! $$$

We are starting a Summer Field Archery League. There will be a drawing after the league has ended, and the winner will receive half of the registration fees. (Minors under 18 and guests will not be eligible for the money raffle but minors will be entered in a drawing for a gift prize).

League shooters must be paid members. You may shoot in groups or by yourself. Fees will be $5.00 for up to three score card entries.

  • 1-3 entries = $5.00
  • 4-6 entries = $10.00
  • 7-9 entries = $15.00 And so on.

Minors under 18 will shoot for free. During this time you will be able to submit as many score cards as you like and each one will be entered in the drawing. Only 1 score card is necessary to enter.

The round will consist of any 14 Hunter/Field targets, targets #1 thru #28. Four arrows will be shot at each target from the appropriate stakes for the targets showing, using the 5,4,3 scoring. (Red stakes for Hunter targets and white stakes for Field targets. Youth and cub stakes will be used for those shooting in those classes.) To submit a score card all 14 targets must be shot and scored. If you are unable to complete all 14 targets on one day you can finish it on another day. You may also submit your scores from our monthly club shoot, using the scores from any 14 targets or use all 28 on two score cards.

The league will start June 27th and go through September 26rd. All cards to be entered must be in on or before the September 26th club meeting and the drawing will be after the meeting.

These rules will be posted in the information kiosk by the main gate and blank score cards will be in the black mail box hanging on the side of the kiosk. If you can't make it to the September general meeting, contact Chuck to get your fees and score cards in.

Make sure your name and phone # are on the back of each score card.

“REMEMBER THE MORE CARDS YOU TURN IN THE BETTER CHANCE YOU HAVE TO WIN”

The idea behind this league is to get people out on the range shooting for practice and to have fun.

About the Field Archery Facility

Welcome to the Field Facility at Conejo Valley Archers Inc. As you pull into Tapo Canyon Park (about 100 yards) you will notice double gates off to your left. This is our free parking area for members. As you continue into our facility you will see a staging area off to your right, which we use to host the five major tournaments we put on annually. Here is where registration takes place as well as after tournament awards and ceremonies (the five tournaments and the dates they are held on can be seen in our "Calendar" section of our website). We also provide a full kitchen which more than adequately satisfies hungry tournament shooters. Alongside our cafeteria there are two other trailers, which house our 3D animals and range maintenance equipment. Two benched areas are where we have our general monthly meeting for our membership. One of these areas is located directly behind the kitchen trailer and the other is located in the warm-up target area.

Just before venturing out on the actual roving course on your right, there is a warm-up area where you have a choice of shooting at various types of paper targets. For your convenience, we also provide a handful of 3D targets that are up year round. This site is also used for our "running pig clout" during tournaments with the warm-up targets behind it as a backdrop. After a warm-up its time to go out on our roving range and have a great time. All bow types are permitted (see General Restrictions and Agreements). We have large groups of longbow, recurve and compound shooters. They are further classified so everyone can compete against each other at our monthly shoots, which are held on the fourth Sunday of every month. At the end of the year we put on a "Fun Shoot" and present all trophies for that year's club shoot winners, have a great catered lunch and install our new Board members and Officers. A great time is had by all. So, come on out and join us! We are proud of our facility and hope you will enjoy being a part of our group.
